Welcome to StridingEdge.comThanks to everyone who’s rung and emailed to check how we’ve been affected by the recent floods. We’re fine, as are the Striding Edge office and warehouse. But we thought you might like to see a couple of photographs of the bridge at our farm entrance. The River Irt – normally about 20 feet wide at this point is about 300 feet wide.
Thanks again,
Annette and Eric
For twenty years Striding Edge has been ordering its customers the very best of Lakeland, Wainwright and much more on DVD, in print and in stunning visual images. Over that time we’ve had the benefit of a great relationship with our customers who have, in effect, created this catalogue through their requests and suggestions. Again this year you’ll find many new titles that you’ve suggested we include; many new places you’d like to explore.
It’s a big Wainwright year. Julia Bradbury’s Coast to Coast walk (helped round some of the truly awful weather they experienced by extracts from my original walk with the man himself) was a great hit. You’ll see that we’re offering a comprehensive Coast to Coast collection.
Chris Jesty’s labour of love in gently revising the Pictorial Guides has come to a conclusion with the publication of the revised volume seven. And next year is the 70th anniversary of that moment of revelation when Wainwright first looked out from Orrest Head above Windermere to the mountain landscapes that would dramatically change his life and the lives of so many thousands of explorers of these high, wild places who followed in his footsteps.
We also have a new top flight presenter this year. Stuart Maconie, passionate fell walker and award winning Radio 2 broadcaster, has explored Wainwright’s Coniston Range for us. where you can also meet the Iron Man. This summer, to celebrate 50 years of fell running, Joss Naylor took on another seemingly impossible challenge at the age of 73.
Striding Edge is supporting the Red Squirrel Survival Trust which is trying to create safe havens for reds in places such as the Lake District. The Trust’s patron is Prince Charles who launched the campaign at an event at Levens Hall in south Cumbria a few months ago. Striding Edge will donate 50p for each new Red Squirrel DVD sold to the Red Squirrel Survival Trust.
