Wainwright’s Northern Fells DVD
Presented by Stuart Maconie
When Wainwright published his Pictorial Guide to the Northern Fells in 1962 he dedicated it to those who travel alone, to the solitary wanderers on the fells who find contentment in the companionship of the mountains and of the creatures of the mountains. Now it’s the turn of award winning broadcaster Stuart Maconie to experience the high, wild expanses of these Northern Fells. Great Calva and Knott, Carrock Fell and Ullock Pike, Souther Fell and Blencathra and the lonely expanses Back O’ Skiddaw. Join him on a two day adventure in the hills introduced by Eric Robson.

Remembering Wainwright DVD
Presented by Eric Robson
On June 7th 1930 a young Alfred Wainwright set off from Blackburn on his first visit to the Lake District. The view of the Lakeland mountains from Orrest Head changed his life and the lives of tens of thousands of people who followed in his footsteps. 80 years to the day later members of the Wainwright Society recreated the journey and on the way we hear memories of the great interpreter of the Lakeland mountains. Eric Robson also introduces rare archive footage in which Wainwright talks about his Lancashire childhood, about football, about the obsession with the mountains that drove him for 30 years, about love, life, God and the Heaven he hopes has a Great Gable in it.

Wainwright described the Howgills as looking like a herd of sleeping elephants. In a way they’re the forgotten quarter of Lakeland, cut off by the M6 motorway. But in this new addition to the Great Walks collection Cameron McNeish, editor of TGO Magazine goes in search of their wild and lonely delights. It’s a two day trek and between them Cameron camped out on the hill in one of the most peaceful corners of Britain.
