Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast walk came second in a recent search to find the 50 best walks in the world. The 190-mile cross-country route was behind only Milford Track, New Zealand, according to Country Walking magazine. The walk, which starts at St. Bees and ends at Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire, was devised by Alfred Wainwright in the 1970's. The Coast-to-Coast walk takes in three national parks - the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors - and takes an average of 13 days to complete.

WAINWRIGHT’S COAST TO COAST WALK with ERIC ROBSON and ALFRED WAINWRIGHT
The Coast to Coast Walk long distance route was devised by Wainwright in 1972 and traversed what AW described as "the grandest territory in the North of England". The walk passes through some of the most beautiful and varied scenery in the country. Two thirds of the route lie within three contrasting National Parks: the rugged mountains and beautiful lakes of the Lake District, the rolling hills and pretty valleys of the Yorkshire Dales and the expansive heather moorland of the North York Moors, with dramatic coastal scenery at each end. Running time approx. 113 mins.

Well known broadcaster, Eric Robson, joins the master fellwalker, Alfred Wainwright, in this classic BBC series and shares the highlights of his 190 mile walk from the Irish Sea at St. Bees Head in the Lake District to Robin Hood's Bay on the North Yorkshire coast.

Julia Bradbury'

AWC2CD
Wainwright Walks - Coast to Coast DVD

Julia Bradbury follows in the footsteps of guidebook writer Alfred Wainwright by walking across the whole of northern England from the west to the east coast. The single DVD runs for 165 minutes with optional subtitles. Special features include: a picture gallery, an Alfred Wainwright biography and a Julia Bradbury biography. more

Sunday Times Critics Choice:
“She is a little too chatty a companion for most walkers, but you can’t argue with the fact that Julia Bradbury has done well to complete the 192 mile trek from St Bees Head on the western coast of England to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east. This trip has been lifted out of the modern obsession with personal journeys by the fantastic clips of Alfred Wainwright talking to Eric Robson in an earlier walking show, and, with the incomparable BBC archive to mine, it may prove a blueprint for series to come.”
