Presented by Eric Robson

On June 7th 1930 a young Alfred Wainwright set off from Blackburn on his first visit to the Lake District. The view of the Lakeland mountains from Orrest Head changed his life and the lives of tens of thousands of people who followed in his footsteps. 80 years to the day later members of the Wainwright Society recreated the journey and on the way we hear memories of the great interpreter of the Lakeland mountains. Eric Robson also introduces rare archive footage in which Wainwright talks about his Lancashire childhood, about football, about the obsession with the mountains that drove him for 30 years, about love, life, God and the Heaven he hopes has a Great Gable in it.
